Only for LUNA and very expensive

Only works with LUNA. One you buy this there is no way to get out of UAD system without losing your money

8 out of 10 times I open Ravel, it causes my Luna session to glitch a lot

8 out of 10 times I open Ravel, it causes my session to glitch a lot. It sounds good when it works, but in my opinion not worth it the investment over other options on the market

Very hand and low dsp usage

The gang controls, which make the changes of one plugin to affect all the other instances of the plugin in a mix session, is very handy. The relatively low dsp usage is also great, and allows one instance of the plugin to be put on every track in the mix possible even when only using an Apollo twin duo for processing. The biggest upside is of course the sound, which can be configured in a wide variety of ways.

I use it everywhere

Simply put it on every channel set it up as described in the manual and your sound become alive, every sound. Swap tapes, change parameters and experiment: not so easy to do with the real one but simply as a click of your mouse with this great plugin!

A really nice extension

I’m really been digging Luna... and instantly fell in love with the sound of the Neve summing extension. I’ve always found that my Apollo system entices me to commit to a tone when I’m recording and the Neve summing extension really helps me quickly dial in bus tones that are punchy and filled with character. I was sold trying the demo — and I encourage everyone to start with the demo. Play with with impedance switch and trim dials across a series of busses and the master buss. The Neve extension gets me to a place that I love more quickly than without and that’s amazing. Can’t wait to see how Luna evolves but I’m really enjoying it.

How Freakin Disappointing!!!

I refuse to give Ravel more than one star no matter how it sounds (which is just okay). The piano notes cut out in the middle of playing chords and individual notes. I have purchased the full package for LUNA but I am discouraged to use LUNA when I run into problems such as this. It's like I paid for the problem! UAD please fix this immediately!!!

UAD Extensions WOW!

I am a life time user of MOTU’s Digital Performer with a heavy emphasis of UAD plugins. I have always gotten close to the sound I was used to from the Studer 800 and the Neve plugs. Now having the ability to utilize the Apollo hardware with the Luna DAW, while using the Studer and the Neve summing on an output bus is the magic I have missed not having a Neve VR Legend. There are some things to be fixed between the Mojave and Catalina operating systems, but this is a winner UAD. I predict with the advent of extension, this is definitely my go to. The piano and the moog are nice add ons.

The best sounding and most playable

Ravel is in a category of its own and the best sounding, most playable virtual piano I've ever played, and I've played tons of 'em. The strings resonance modeling together with the sampling likely has a good bit to do with that. Sampling single notes and then playing chords etc with individual notes sampled in isolation from every other note only gets one so far. No one only plays one note at a time when they play a piano, which is a fundamental part of why a lot of sample based virtual pianos fall flat and are completely unnatural sounding and totally uninspiring to play. That's not the case with Ravel. Side note: yeah, sure I wouldn't mind using it in any DAW either but that is NOT a valid reason for giving it a low rating.

Expressive, musical and a joy to hear, play and use, very happy I pulled the trigger on this!

This Minimoog is something special. No others can compare. People should not be giving it a low rating simply because they want to whine and have a little pouty tantrum because they can't use it outside of Luna or because Luna and its extensions are not yet available for PC. The review and attendant rating should be about its quality or lack thereof, not about that certain people want to cry and stomp their feet about things that are not relevant to rating the actual quality of this Minimoog. Such reviews and the low ratings that go along with them are not legitimate reviews and ratings based on experience with this Minimoog, they are merely tantrums and UA would be totally justified to simply delete these tantrums - and should. Seriously. They artificially and misleadingly lower the rating of a very fine piece of work and are not even actual legitimate reviews. Period.

The one

I have tried them all (or close to it): McDSP Analog Channel, Avid Reel Tape, Avid Heat, Slate VTM, Softube Tape. All of them gives me some distorsion or warmth, none of them glues a mix together like a real tape machine. But UAD Studer A800 does! A bit expensive (compared to the competition) which is why I waited too long to get it... Now I’m very glad I did! If you’re mixing rock or heavier music with real recorded drums you need this...

still buggy

sounds amazing in between notes and chords cutting out. i had to use a different midi piano to record with, then swapped with ravel, exported the audio, and then reimported the bounced track. it sounds amazing but it needs a major update still. such a hassle

Ok but too roomy

It's nice to have a grand piano running off UA DSP power but compared to Keyscape, for instance, the sound is wayyy too roomy for my taste. Even when the mic is set to "close" it still sounds too roomy and distant.

Damn close to the real deal

From the Early Days i worked with the Studer 2 inch tape...... This plugin is so close. I use it mostly on the mastermix. Mix in a box, has never been so close to the real deal consol Sound...

Yes.....?

First off, Im digging UAD and Luna a lot. Ive been a long time protools user, a recording/mixing hobby-ist for close to 25 years now. My mixing method is based a lot on harmonic distortion and saturation, with less emphasis on eq and compression. “Less is more” is my motto. I really think they got something special here and can definitely replace protools in a short time. One thing that drew me to Luna was the neve summing. They mention the sound city documentary in the description and ever since seeing that doc a few years back I've chased that tone. Claiming this plugin emulates that is a tall order. Now, i know better than to think a plugin will perfectly imitate an 80 series console, but even if its in the ball park, im sold. After messing with this with the demos a few times (thank you UA for resetting the demos after each purchase!), and after actually purchasing it (on sale), I have some thoughts:
First off, this is not a $300 plugin. At all. Yes most UA plugs are baseline $300...but should not be. Im not gonna be one of those people who say “its only for luna so screw this plugin”...but i will totally agree its worth mayyyybe $150. Base price.
Heres a tip: take the neve preamp plugin from UA, put it on the first insert of your master buss. Set it to line or mic, you’re preference (experiment!) and jack the gain up to a click or 2 below distortion at the loudest part of the song, then gain/volume match with the trim knob. A/B that with neve summing and tell me which sounds better. I hate to say it, but I may be going back to the neve preamp method, given this doesn't really add much. Im glad i bought it on sale, cause you have to be nuts to buy any UA plugin at full price, especially this one. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now im giving it a break and chalking it up to a bad purchase on my part. However, thank you UA for all the great products!

Great tool!

I don't have much experience with tape machines simulator to compare, but I'm pretty happy with the Studer.
