My Secret Weapon
I'm sure glad I have the plugin version, 'cause I'd go broke without how often I'll use this thing in a mix. Drum buss, parallel compression, Master buss, sometimes to squash the crap out of a crazy bass synth, and DEFINITELY on every mastering session. It seems like too many knobs but it's SO simple to use. I just wish the lettering was bigger around the knobs.

Nun....
das bisher schwächste Plugin in meiner Uad Sammlung. Wenn ich durch die Presets fahre, höre ich kaum Unterschiede. So ist das wohl bei uns Produzenten Laien. Hier muss man wissen was man tut.

Shadow Hills Mastering plugin
My new secret weapon! Adds lots of nice sheen if you want it and energy into the track. Very versatile. Really great.

Why The Hate?
I'm not sure why there's so much hate for this plugin in the reviews, equating it to Izotope? good god, ugh.
Look. There are certain tools for certain jobs, and writing off this compressor because it failed at whatever you attempted it on only shows lack of understanding of your appointed skills as an engineer/mixer.
Do I use this on instrument busses? vocals or guitars? Nope.
Slap this on your two-bus, and forget the presets. Set the thresholds on both compressors as needed to just "tuck" the transients back, flip the side-chain on, and flip between Nickel, Iron, and Steel to find the right "glue" for your mix. Now tell me your mix doesn't feel that bit of extra life brought to it.
This is not a plug in for heavy hands, period.

Very useful & sweet sound
Though it may not match the hardware in the video demo (where drums are slammed over 10dB) that doesn't negate the usefulness of this dual comp. It has a nice sound and color & it is very helpful on mixes and mastering. Great curves, nice transformer sounds, flexible dual comp. Better than the SSL & another recently released VCA/Mu bus comp. A mastering comp should not impart too much alteration on the mix, and this guy is appropriately subtle. I love it, though I wish UA did the coding. They seem to know more about transformer & tube modeling (Vari-Mu please!). Still, full marks from this ITB mastering guy.

Killer
This thing is true Killer. Smash your drums on the bus or Compress your Master file - either way it is my go-to choice for final tweaks. Highly recommend,BUT must be use with head - don't expect Magic, use it reasonably.

I wonder in the mix
Shadow Hill has done a tremendous job in creating a compressor that will lift up your music to higher heights, truly the settings on this particular compressor gives you an amazing amount of variation that you can use to color your sound. I have been a musician, singer, songwriter, for 40 years and I can truly say that the shadow Hill compressor plug-in is the way to go. The beautiful thing about this particular plug-in is as with all the plug-ins from universal audio, you just put it on and watch it do its thing. The smoothness of the knobs are really amazing, it's like you can almost grab it with your hand and turn them, even with the mouse its easy.

the Shadow know...
I'm a recent convert to the UA family... and I couldn't be happier. The Shadow Hills was one of my custom bundle that I bought and it makes me sound like I'm a genius! If only I could use the plug in on all areas of my life. Thanks UA.. great job!!

I tried not to like this compressor and at first I didn't!
Why did I try not to like it?
1. Because it looks pretty... and usually that means that it doesn't perform well.
2. Peter Reardon just seemed a little obnoxious to me.
3. It is waay to heavy handed for a master bus.
That being said, this compressor shines on vocals. It really does. I think that is its strongest application actually.
If you would like to hear some vocals processed through this then check out https://soundcloud.com/rialety. "Steppin Out" has Shadow Hills all over it.

Great plug in
It is a great plug in until I upgraded to pro tools 11 and now I can't use it. I wished avid had worked with other third party plug ins before they changed the platform so they won't work. I hope that UA is working on a fix so I can use it and my other UA plugins.

love it
very nice, love this tool for my masters, one of the interesting features of the plugin is its ability to treat the left and right channels either as a stereo pair or independently. Not only does that mean that each channel can compress separately if required, helping to maintain the stereo image, but it also allows different settings to be applied to each channel.

what can i say....STRONG
I have used a lot of mastering units. I currently use Avalon 747 for my 2buss. With the Tube warmth, the incredible EQ and the very smooth compression this is my main go go.
I have been druling over the SHMC for a year now, went to Vintage King Nashville to see one. When I had to chance to do the Plugin thing I went for it. I am very happy with all the differen sounds this thing has. it is very think in sound, you know what it is when y ou hear it. I does not "pump"...and will really glue and smelt your tracks as one. Use the low pass to keep the lows virtually untouched. Cons...I would have loved to see more presets from the pros on different subjects i.e. Kick drum, Male vocal light, med, and heavy, skybluenashville.com
