EP-34 Very unique!
Yup, I used the hardware units back in the day. And they all went south sooner or later, the plug always works and is unique in the UAD-2 lineup. Very different from the Roland space echo that I also have. It has just the right amount of crud in the signal to give it that character sound. With runaway feedback to die for! This is a true tape delay in every sense of the word! Can't live without it. Neither will you.

I've never used the actual unit, but as far as i can tell, this plug-in mimics the echo very well!
It takes some getting used to in order to fully understand the way such an echo works but once you get the hang of it you can make some very unique sounds out of it!

I dont think Id ever be able to find or afford the hardware version of this anytime soon, plus you got to love the awesome portishead memories you can create on your own now. Be just like adrian utley with this key to the door of endless possibilities!

For Tweaking
Really get in and tweak those dials! Can be subtle until you really push it or dial it in.. this makes it really work really well with a dynamically expressive input. Has great saturation when pushed. Great special effects when automated. Really need to use the bass and treble eq to dial in the tone.

Definitely organic and great on vocals as well as a few instruments.
When used with Cooper Timetube or even the EMT140. I get a great sound from this plugin.

Wartime's favorite delay plugin
Great plugin! Since I never worked with the original device it took me a while to get used to the interface, but when I did..oh man! The sound is great and it gives this vintage feel that cannot be found in the other VSTs I use. Highly recommended!

The sound of this plug in is exactly that of the original, except at that with the software version your levels won't change in a recall (and you can automate it). Great job!

this ep-34 tape echo is one of the finest plug ins I have ever used since it is a multi use item with excellent echo ,delay and added effects characteristics beyond any expectations .any sounds can be enhanced both dramatically or with great finesse .
eliminates the multi plug in useage conserving dsp , pgm and time
the ease of operating scope is another example of the uad perfection .

I thought I could manage delays with the roland space echo and would not need another delay.. but this one is really special. It's got a lovely saturation and with short delays can give a smooth and fat sound.

Wonderful tape sound and warmth.
I use this plugin to warm up tracks even when the effect is subtle. It's amazing how close it is to the real thing and how it dramatically warms the sterile digital sound to a tape-like quality. The tape-echo can be pushed to achieve some beautiful results that I've not seen in other plugins. It's one of my few essential plugins.

EP-34 Great for tape echo emulation
Very impressive job of recreating the Echoplex but I am looking forward to more robust delay offerings from UAD. UAD really makes the very best of the best in plugin effects and it needs a more full featured plugin similar to Echo Boy or PSP 608 Multi-Delay.
You make and I will definitely purchase. That being said - The EP-34 is as close to tape delay as you can get.

Vocal Warmth inside the box
This plugin does something special that just brings a vocal to a warm place where it belongs.
Use with EMT 140 and Copper Time Cube and you can get a vocal sound that is just perfect.

My perfect echo...
Vintage. Warm. Control. Historic. Mine!
I love delay. At times (especially for vocals) I will use it like a separate backing instrument. I'm shocked at how versatile, complimentary and modern this effect can be although there is plenty of old school "cheese" if one wants it.
Buy this.
